HIS MESSAGE CAME THROUGH

I heard a man "speak" at a speakers meeting online the other day.  He's a quadriplegic living in a retirement home for the disabled, and he communicates with a computer. He is deaf and cannot talk.  He does not know how long he has left here on this earth, but he reminds us as he shares, that neither do we.  Because of the disease we have called alcoholism, he is now living with the consequences of driving drunk.

His message is this:  Yes, what he did was wrong, and thank God he only injured himself.  He wanted us to know that he has been sober for 19 months, and that it does not get any better out there.  Also, that hindsight comes too late - you can't always just come back to AA.  Think the drink through.

He is working the Steps online with a man whom he knows but has never met in person.  This man told him about online AA. This man is his sponsor.  If not for online AA meetings, he never would have been able to share his story.  And this alcoholic never would have been able to hear his story.

I don't know about you, but I could have been where he is today.  There but for the grace of God go I.  The only difference between him and me is that he didn't get away with drinking and driving.  This man changed my life.
